Cling Wrap Pest Control

I am about to put out a planter with some saffron bulbs; but I worry the pests/weeds will invade the box. Would a layer of clingwrap over the opening of the box be an effective way of keeping the unwanted out? It would just act as a humidity dome.. Poke a few tiny holes for venting, replace as needed?

I just wanted to run the idea past people =D

Thanks for any advice

I'm assuming you would place the planter in the sun. cling wrap would create a greenhouse environment, intensifying the heat. I think a wire mesh/screen would be a better choice. Mesh size would depend on what you are trying to keep out. A stronger wire despite somewhat larger holes would be more effective for keeping out digging animals.

Weeds -- from seeds? Just pull them out.

More along the line of insects getting to them when they sprout. Ive had bad bug problems, namly catapillers, grasshoppers, and these stange orange/black bug ive yet to ID... I can reduce the heat, via less sun, and bigger vent holes.

Thanks again for the quick responce, more questions to come =D
