Maybe the barrel garden wasn't such a hot idea...

Well, as we get further into the season, and hotter weather, I'm starting to see the fault in the barrel garden idea I had. The problem is that the soil is drying out too quickly. I think it's because of the round shape of the base of the barrel containers. As you get closer to the sides, the soil gets more shallow. So that dries out quickly and wicks water from the rest of the barrel. I am pretty much having to water every day to keep up with it. And even at that rate, I think it's not always enough. Unless I have a moment of enlightenment, I think I'll just build wooden raised beds for next year.....creeeeeee-ap!
