heat from the sun and plastic buckets

I read where water bottles exposed to the heat cause a chemical reaction that isn't healthy...does the same apply to used food buckets that you use for container gardening?

You know - the buckets out in the sun all day ....I don't know why this worries me as I eat at a particular fast food chain and that probably will kill me someday...LOL

Different plastics... for water bottles they use mostly polycarbonate plastics (with the #7 recycle symbol) to get the clear, hard, glassy look. The polycarbonates are the ones that leach BPA/ Bisphenol A, really bad stuff.

The food grade 5 gallon buckets are made of HDPE high density polyethylene, recycle symbol # 2. These are fine to use and don't leach chemicals.

Just don't plant any vegetables in water bottles!! :)
