amaryllis question

I dug up a amaryllis and brought it in and put it in potting soil, it had started to sprout when we had that bout of real warm weather. The question is, will it continue to grow? It already has a sprout starting, will it die or just keep growing? :?

If this was a winter bloomer for you within the last year, then yes, it will probably continue to grow green leaves, and I'd let it. It is highly unlikely it will bloom for you this year, though. Not enough time to rest.

Give it some bone meal, let it grow just the green stuff, then let that die off, perhaps next July! so that it can rest and be ready to sprout indoors again.

It's more than a warm spell that set it off. My sister's in Jax Fl never bloom, (except the seven in a pot that I gave her). They don't get water, they don't get sun, they don't get any soil enrichment. Just an occasional green leaf.

I would have to force mine to come into bloom at Christmas. Our season is generally going to be January February.

The bulb that has green on it has not flowered yet at all, it just started to get greenery on it when I dug it up, I was wondering, which comes first, the stem and flowers, the leaves or the roots, because right now there is NOTHING HAPPENING! I was thinking of using some Miracle-Gro on them but saw on another web page that they don't need fertilizing now. I am very confused, I made a gallon of Miracle-Gro food for the plants, but am not sure whether to put any on or not. Watered them a little yesterday and am keeping a log to make sure I don't water them too much, but am getting rather tired of looking at them and they not doing anything. How long does it take before I see something happening? Help, not long on patience. :?

I thin maybe these Amaryllis bulbs do not have enough heat, so I turned on the other light, going to see if I can post a picture of my lighting system and you can tell me if it is okay.

Decided to put the bulbs outside for some sunshine, I did not put the vase out because I thought it might get tipped over and broke. So I put it in the windowsill, the squirrels won't dig up the bulbs that are in the pots will they? I did not want to give them a midday snack!

It has some root growth, so presumably is alive and well. You may just have to cultivate patience along with your amaryllis... :)

Every place that I have went to and read said that the bulb should be placed in a cool, dark place for 2-3 weeks or until you see roots and green shoots, do you think that is a good idea? I am going to leave both lamps off for awhile, it won't be totally dark, but it will be cool, would that be a good idea? I just changed the water in my Amaryllis vase and put tepid water in it, the roots are growing as you can see in the picture in my last post. I put the one that had started to sprout in the windowsill, will try another experiment, going to see just which one sprouts the quickest. The ones in the cool or the one in the windowsill. Wish me luck! :)
