I have a large aluminum tub - 70's I'd think. It's probably 2.5 ft deep and 4 feet long. (There are holes around the bottom for drainage)

I'd love to use this to plant strawberry plants and place it near our outdoor living area.

Any ideas on how to fill it and make it workable?

Perhaps not fill it at all - buy pots and put them inside? Smashed aluminum cans at the bottom? Rocks?

It's certainly a nice sizable container. Is there any concern that aluminum might be leached out by the acidic action of the soil biology and affect the plant growth and/or get in the fruit?

maybe line it with a plastic liner first?

my mom uses broken packaging Styrofoam... I use rocks.... have tried marbles too....

use god draining soil for the bottom half and a nicer dense soil the top half.. but maybe I'm wrong about that part
