HELP! My lavender is becoming a stranger to me!

Hi All,
This past summer I planted some lavender in a window box off my back porch. She didn't seem happy so I moved her to the yard where she suffered under the unexpected growth of a flowering plant I picked up at Lowes. Now her transient lifestyle has posited her inside in a pot by my kitchen window and it seems happier than ever! It doesn't get a whole lot of light, but it seems to grow like a weed.
But I am confused: 1) There is the tough leaves at the bottom that have been there since I bought it. 2) Out of that soil, these thin (same shaped) leggy vines are growing out--it looks almost entirely different than the tough sage colored stuff--but still smells like lavender.
I am wondering if everything is okay, and if anyone has any suggestions on what to do with this wandering lady? I am curious as to whether or not I should trim, dry the leaves, etc. Thanks!
