Mine is probably dead and I was wondering how I start a new one from strouts of of it if it isnt dead. I'm not sure if it's alive or dead at this point.

Well, if it's really dead, then it's dead and cuttings won't do anything.
But if it is not dead, and you want to try some cuttings, just cut some pieces off with leaf nodes and put them in water or coat them in rooting hormone and put them in potting soil.
