Growing strawberries in a container

Hi I'm new here and new at growing strawberries, I've seen srawberries grown in containers before, my situation is this, I have the container on the ground, and I have two runners spreading out. My mom came over (in which has not grown strawberries and said the runnners need to be in the ground), I need to know if this is true, do ineed to retransplant these strawberries? Any info. on strawberries would be greatly appreciated. :D

If you want more plants, set the plants at the end of the runners over the soil where you would like them to grow. Those will root and become identical to the parent plants. If you don't want additional plants, simply pinch or snip the runners and discard them.
