My yard is very shady, lots of big trees except in the front yard and area around the pool. So mostly I grow flowers, with lots of container plants on the pool deck. Most of these are flowers, too, but every year I have to have a tomato or two and fresh basil for my favorite salad. The tomatoes don't do as well as I'd like, has anyone ever used one of these?

It seems pricey, but if I could get a real tomato crop like they claim, I'd be willing to try one.

This seems like an expensive knock-off of the Earth Box. And there are, in turn, many sets of instructions on the Internet on how to make your own Earth-Box-like, self-watering, tomato-growing container for very little $$.

I visited someone's house about four or five years ago, when the Earth Box was first commercially released. He got good results in it, but he was also getting good results from his in-ground plants. I'm not sure what the Earth Box did for him other than provide extra square footage (which, since his planting area was like mine, was a consideration).
