Standard Clay Pot Water Sealant?

One of the downsides of standard (unglazed) clay pots is that they dry out quickly. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried using some kind of sealant to keep water from leeching through the pot?

Thanks,
Jalopy

Jalopy, If you want to do that why not change over to plastic pots and loamless compost.

New or very dry clay pots should be immersed in water for 10-15 minutes prior to use.
When using clay pots use a loam based compost and if watering is carried out when needed they will not dry out unduly.

Loamless and particularly peat composts are most suited to plastic containers and unglazed earthenware (clay) containers are quite satisfactory when using a loam based compost.

I have done mosaics on clay pots and before attaching the tile you have to seal the pot. I got a grout sealant from the local hardware store in the paving section. It's a liquid and you just brush it on.

After finishing the mosaic I also use the sealant to seal the grout.
