transplanting strawberries

I was wondering if it is better to transplant the strawberry runners in the fall or leave them until spring?

In general young strawberry plant panted in the fall will produce a decent crop of full sized fruit the next summer. Strawberry plants planted in the spring usually don't set a full crop until the next year. Here in S.C., fall transplanted strawberries do not go fully dormant and enjoy a good bit of growth prior to the next fruit season. So for me, fall panting is the hands down winner in that decision.

Up in canada I'd move them in the spring. It's suggested here unless you really mulch in the new plants and cover them in several inches of straw.
