watermelon split

I watered the watermelon vines and the next day, my oldest watermelon had a split in it's rind 1 1/2" long. Does this mean the fruit is ruined?
Will the split keep getting bigger, and what can I do to keep it from happening to my other 4 immature watermelons?
First time gardener here, so be gentle with me!!

I am not sure how to prevent the others, but I do know that the split does not ruin the entire melon!
