Elderberries ripe

I've started harvesting elderberries (see muffin recipe in the Veggie Gardening forum -- recipe sticky). I read in an old magazine about harvesting -- cut the whole cluster off the bush, then remove berries by "combing" through with a dinner fork when you get inside. Works much better than hand-picking, which is what I was doing!

Neat that those old magazines are coming in handy! Sometimes our elders did know best after all, huh? Enjoy your berries!

I really love the old mags. Of course, the ones I have were my grandmother's and my father's -- if the stuff in them didn't work, I wouldn't have eaten nearly so well as a kid!
