need advice zone 5 peach or apricot tree

Are peach trees or apricot trees grown well in northern Indiana, zone 5?

I'm interested in a self pollinating fruit tree that also looks pretty for in my front yard... any suggestions appreciated! Would it work in an area that is only about 10 feet wide?

Thanks.

Have you run across a dwarf Reliance peach yet? Great tasting and it should only attain a height of about 15'.

Another great tasting peach you might like would be a dwarf Contender. It shouldn't get much taller than 15' either.

One thing though, these trees need full sun.

Red Haven is not quite as hardy as Reliance but it should be okay where you are. At least in New England it tends to be the best tasting cold hardy peach.

Please be aware that all peaches in the North are what a former employer of mine called "an up an' die species" meaning that they are short lived (15 - 20 years max) and prone to perish in a hurry when they go.

An "up and die", never heard that before but very appropriate.
