Over-Wintering Strawberries in a Container

hi
I currently have some strawberry plants in hanging baskets. Will it be possible to keep them over winter? Should I bring the baskets inside, or should I move the plants into the ground once they have finished fruiting this year?

I'd put them into the ground and put some straw around the roots and lay the foliage ontop of the straw. The straw will insulate the roots and the soil.

Last winter, I overwintered potted Venus Fly Traps for the first time. After a hard freeze (it was Nov 25 in southern NJ -- zone 6/7 border), I put all the pots in a large cooler in the garage, bid them "good night," and left them there until March 26 (when daytime temp reliably stayed above 35ºF). I lost one plant -- a very young offshoot -- out of 5 but the other 4 survived and are doing fine. I wonder if this would work for potted strawberries too? Anyone?

I agree with opabinia, by leaving them outside, but protecting them, you will have hardier plants that should produce very well for you next year.
