New fruiting cherry tree problem

I planted a new cherry tree this spring (Sunburst, an eating variety) and it seems to have taken well to its situation. But something odd has got onto it. At the base of each leaf are a couple of red bobbles, in which ants were showing great interest until I grease-banded the tree. Please have a look here

Which is a leaf I took off and put in the scanner. If you can shed any light for me, I would be very grateful.
