Fruit trees by the river?

Would it be good to plant peach, apple and cherry trees by the river? I wondered if they would thrive like the other trees growing along the river on our property?

What is your wildlife situation like? Cherries need to be protected from birds and chipmunks, and apples and peaches are fair game to squirrels, chipmunks, raccoons, and groundHOGs/woodchucks/whistle pigs in my garden without multi-layer, multi-strategy security and protection, culminating in electrified wire fencing as last resort (and trapping as absolute).

We have birds and racoons. We trap the racoons. We have deer as well. I will have to figure something out to protect them from creatures.

So aside from the pests would it be a good place to plant fruit trees by the river or is a different spot best to plant them?
