Why no leafs/blossom my pear tree ? Pix inside

Post by Husk24 »

Hi All

I bought this pear tree last year, planted it in garden and it fruited. This year however nothing has happened so far, no blossom, buds seem to be dried out.

I have sprayed it with seaweed few weeks back like the rest of my trees which are doing fine.

Any idea what is the cause? Pixs attached

Thank you

I’m a little worried about that pear Husk.
It should have moved by now with the warm weather of last week.
Scrap a little bit of bark back to make sure you have still got a green cambium layer.
If yes...then give it a little more time. But I’m afraid it doesn’t look good.
Most pears should be well into early flower now, or at least at white bud.
One question though...why spray with seaweed before there are leaves to absorb it?

The buds themselves are like husks that protect the young forming leaves inside. The best time to start spraying a feed spray like seaweed is once the rosette of young leaves have formed around the developing truss. What is known as ...early green cluster.
These leaves are the ones that will be feeding the blossom truss through the pollination stages and also in the critical period once the fruit has set and cell devision is taking place.
Earlier feed sprays will not harm...but will not be doing much.

Thanks rainbow gardener, it certainly is a lovely view, shame about the poor weather we get here in northern England!

Hi Jona, I checked today and it has the cambium layer, checked few places, so hopefully the tree is not dead!

Hi John/Others,

I have an update, I checked the tree and it appeared to be lose, its attached to a stake but tree was loose, Iooks like the winds during winter had loosened it up from the roots. I have now replanted it same spot and put new compost over it. So looks like it came loose hence no activity as yet.

Will it likely to ‘wake up’ or is it too late for it this year?

Thanks

Just depends how much damage was done to the root system Husk.
Give it a couple more weeks...if nothing ..then I’m agraid it's probably dead.

Looks like it Husk.....it would have moved by now if it was still in the land of the living.
Burn it if you can..just to stop infection.
