Advice on Saving Espaliered Peach Trees

Hello -

We recently purchased a home with three peach trees espaliered against a wooden fence. The two that are still alive are overgrown at the top and several of the lateral branches aren't well aligned with the espalier supports. I'd really appreciate suggestions for how to go about repairing them over the next couple of seasons.

Thanks for your help!

The big danger on your peach trees is that their tops are getting too strong.
Both of those trees need their tops removed except for just a very weak shoot being left above the fence level. This will then send all the plants strength into those lower side branches.
Over the next few years you will have to replace these side shoots now and then.
The ideal is to try to have the strongest branches at the bottom gradually getting weaker ones higher up.
If a higher branch becomes too dominant the ones lower down will suffer.

For now though.....lose all that strength from the heads.
