what is this thorny shrub with pale yellow fruits?

I think it's Japanese quince......Chaenomeles .
It has a waxy flower in the early summer. Can be used for jam etc.

yep, we tend to call them 'flowering quince' around here. the fruit when ripe is very fragrant and fairly sour.
