How to Prune an Avocado Tree?

Hello everyone! I have a bit of an issue here! I've tried my hand at pruning but I feel like I've made a mistake somehow. I cut the very top off my 2 year old avocado plant to try and promote limb growth, and I cut it right below the stem tip as new leaves were beginning to show. Now the plant has stopped growing and the tip of the plant is a brown scab. Have I decapitated my plant and killed it? I still have many large healthy leaves and the stem is about 3 feet tall...

Thanks so much for your help!

Nope. The plant is re-organizing since it can't grow the way it was thinking of growing. You will get side shoots from the tip and most likely upper 2 or three leaf nodes. You could give it some fertilizer to encourage it to grow.
