What kind of fruit is this?
This tree is growing in our back yard. Does anyone know what it is and are they edible?

MULBERRIES! YEP! Blackest black ones that drop as soon as you touch them are the ripest. Dunk and swirl in a bucket of cold water twice, then drain.
We freeze any not eaten fresh the same day, and use them in pancakes, baked goods and smoothies. If we decide to work at it and harvest quantities by laying a tarp under the tree to catch all that fall, I make preserves -- alone or mixed with other berries.
