Newbie Question - Lemon Tree

Good morning, we have a lemon tree given to us by a neighbor.

It has grown indoors over the winter as one tall stalk.

How do I split the main stalk to encourage additional branch growth?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

IMO, do not try to split it.

Let the winter pass by and then put it outside during the summer or spring for plenty of sunshine. Water it well, provide compost and manure as well.

The plant is OK and just trying to adjust itself with the new soil type and new indoor environment and winter.

It probably has one tall stalk because it needs more light. If you have it indoors, give it a bright spot and additional lighting if you can.

Well the Texas summer is starting so hopefully that will help! We moved it outdoors about a month ago. Thank you!

Faceofjace - warm welcome to the forum.

A little more information would be helpful. You mentioned Texas but where in Texas? Texas cover a lot of area and many different growing conditions. Edit your profile and include your county and state.

About your lemon tree. Was it grown from a seed or a cutting? What size and what type of container is it in? How tall is the plant? What type of soil is it planted in?

This information will enable the forum members to provide you with much better advice.

Waiting to hear from you. :-()
