Blackberry transplants

I had read several articles online about late fall and early winter being the best time to transplant blackberries and I found a big patch at a recent work site. After getting permission I took a few of the smaller plants and brought them home. I'm hoping to give them a good strong start in the these pots (hopefully they'll take and not just die off) then move them to my grandfather's place sometime in the near future. An suggestions would be appreciated.

Based on what I learned in class. Blackberries fruit only on their two year old vines. After fruiting they die off, whats left is the one year old vines. Once those vines stop budding and growing it is safe to transplant them. I cant make out in your pics but it seems the die off would be the two year old vines. SO if you did it according to what I wrote above you're fine.
