Watermelon, pumpkin, or something else...

Hiya,

First off, this is my first post and my first time trying to garden.

Background: I thought I would try something simple so I just bought some packs of pumpkin seeds and watermelon seeds and plant them in four (4) little starter paks (I forgot what they are called, but they came togeter) then transfered them to some turned soil mixed with some store-bought topsoil after they sprouted. This was sometime in April-May time period.

I didn't think anything was growing because after about a month or so they died (or appeared to). A couple more weeks go by and I see another sprout come up...hmmm...which one is it?

A couple more weeks go by, a vine or two have grown out pretty big by this time. I go to see how things are going and behold four fruits that look like little watermelons.

Well, I wait about a week and look up to see how to tell when they are ripe (thinking they are watermelons) and cut the two big ones off the vine. Later that night (after refrigerating one) I cut it open and this is what I see:

This definatly doesn't look like a watermelon, but more like a pumpkin on the inside. But as I looked closer, it doesn't look like a pumpkin either. So what is it? Any ideas?

looks a lot like a zucchini on the inside. I think they can cross-breed, so you may have a new species there... lol.

Looks to me like a watermelon and a zucchini might have cross pollinated. Look on the veggie forum and see the corncumber. A cuke and corn cross pollinted and its pretty neat.
