fruit seeds

ok dumb a question as this is but if I buy a fig from a grocery store or somewhere and extract the seeds could I grow a plant from this or would this not work do to packaging or shipping or refigerating of the fruit just a little curious.

From what I've read, figs can be grown from seed fairly easy, even from commercial fruit. BUT - it can take considerable time under anything less than optimal conditions. I think the standard propogation method is wood cuttings from an existing plant.

it would take an awful long time from seed to be a producing plant.
Unless you just want to wait or have plenty of time to devote to the seed. I would get a cutting from someone elses plant or buy one outright.
