Greetings Rosebloom, I've planted sugar babies this year also. To tell if the melon is ripe: Follow the stem coming from the melon to where it connects to the vine, the will be a Sprig growing there like a little finger. When that sprig is dry or fallen off, the melon is ripe.

When I worked at a water melon picker they told us, roll the melon over if the bottom is yellow pick it. If the bottom is white roll it back.

Bottom was no color except green. :> yummy, but still had some white patches. Even though, managed to get six 1 and a half inch slices.

Hi, That sounds so good. We have some coming up fast, not quite ready yet. They get big so quickly, if you had a time laps camera that did a click every hour or two, you could watch it inflate like a balloon. Take care.
