Death of a Raspberry?

I had some big, beautiful sweet raspberries and wanted to take them with me to our new house. The container they were in was WAY to big and heavy to move, so I took the sticks out individually and transplanted them in smaller buckets, one or two two a bucket. Well, they all eventually turned brown and dried out; even with what I thought was sufficient watering. Will these come around again next year? Or should I give up hope, pull them out, and start fresh with some new sticks?
