Raspberry beetle nataneko.
Byturus tomentosus.
The adult beetle feeds on the growing flowers and buds of the plant then lays its eggs on the growing fruits.
The resulting grub eats the fruit and tunnels into the plug. Then drops to the ground to hibernate until the next May when the adult appears to start the process all over again.
Spraying may be necessary just as the fruit starts to turn pink if the infestation is heavy.
