Arapaho Blackberry Year 2 - Weeds or Primocanes?

Hello! Complete newbie to gardening. I am on my second year with 4 blackberry plants in my yard: a Ouachita, an Arapaho, and two Triple Crowns.

The Arapaho grew tons of frilly-leaved stalks around it this year. They are as tall as the rest of the plant, and the fruiting canes thrived in the center. I assumed those stalks were suckers--normal propagation--even though the leaves are more delicate and multi-lobed.

My husband says they are weeds and he intends to cut them all to the ground.

I haven't been able to find any photos of a plant, as most people focus on the main attraction: enormous berries.

Does anyone have experience with Arapaho plants? I don't want to lose a year of growth.
Thanks!

You have a nice looking blackberry plant there.... but those frilly leaved plants in the foreground are definately a weeds. I've grown Arapaho blackberries for a few years now. I think they are my favorite. Nice and early. They ripen before the bugs start attacking.
