Fall planting of Strawberries??

When is the best time to plant strawberries? I am in zone 6a.
I would like to get them started so I can get some fruit next year.
I am replacing my grape vines with berries.

I think the stumbling block may be finding daughters for sale from any of the nurseries this fall. You should be able to collect them from field and plant them yourself if you are a determined forager.

Normally catalogs will offer them March-May for your (and my) zone.

I'd recommend buying 1 year old bare root stocks for spring planting as soon as you can work the soil. Clip blooms the first month then let it go. If you want berries clip the runners for better production. Seascape strawberries will fruit right to frost. Or any other "day neutral " type. Ever bearing should give two crops a year and June ones make the big fruit once a year.
