Should I Cut Off Fruit (Pre-harvest)of 1st Year Cherry Tree?

I planted a North Star Cherry tree just a few months ago, as soon as the ground thawed. It is skinny, about 7 ft tall. It has already flowered and is now producing fruit. Currently, the fruit are about 3 times the size of peas, and growing.

Someone suggested that I should cut off all the fruit now so that next year's harvest will be better. The idea being that the tree will focus it's energy on developing/getting stronger rather than trying to make fruit too soon.

Is this sound advice? Is cutting off all the fruit now a good idea?
