Hanging strawberries problem

I am growing strawberries in a container. They looked very good at first. Now the leaves and flowers look as if they are burnt and shriveling up with only an occasional strawberry. I water them once or twice a day, and the pots have drainage holes. I live in Western Washington state. Should I keep them out of the sun for most or part of the time?

Do you think the strawberry plants would do better if I transplanted them in the ground? The plants are quite large and may be too confined in the hanging pots. Just wondering. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi tenplay.
It sounds as if your plants are suffering from scorch.
The problem is that container grown plants are inclined to have a relatively small root system.
This is fine while the balance between water loss and water up-take is in balance. But....once the temperature climbs and the sun gets going, often the plant is losing water through its leaves ( transperation) faster than the roots can supply. Result is the leaves start to desicate.
Shading will help a lot.
Also in direct hot sun, straws can start suffer sun scorch on the fruit.
