What type of melon is this?

Hello all, I'm new to this. I stumbled across these plants while walking along a drainage canal here in the New Orleans area. The vine looks just like a cucumber, with the same yellow flowers and prickly vine. The fruit smells very much like a cucumber too. I have looked all over to try to distinguish this plant from others, but found nothing definitive. Perhaps it is some kind of hybrid.

Image is four successive snapshots from slightly varied angles. The three fruits pictured are from the same plant but were different colors. Thanks for the help. I would like to know if I can eat these should the gas prices rise again.

Well, looks like a mini watermelon, smells like a cucumber and foilage looks like a cucumber. My guess is its a watercumber!

I really have no Idea but its still pretty neat that you found that. Id watch the plant all summer and see how big they get :D

Looks like a type of wild cucumber. We have similar plants growing here, but the color differs a bit. I don't expect them to grow much larger than those in the photo, but I may be wrong though.
