bare root elderberries

will new growth be on the wood or up from the ground? theyve been in the ground since may 20th, and I see something coming up from the ground on one, hoping it is elderberry and not a weed or something else.

Could be either sheeshshe. Sometimes they grow new shoots from dead- looking trunks. I suspect though, that it will be oing a lot of growing underground ths year. Once established, you'll have elderberries growing way beyond where you THOUGHT you were going to grow them.

In my garden, they are "spreading" courtesy of the birds as well.

well, that is good to know! they were taking quite some time, and they actually arrived at my house while I was on vacation, so I was a bit worried that the roots dried out. I had my mom stick them in my fridge though... they sent me some freebie roots too and it was some sort of indian currant. when i looked it up, it didn't sound like it was an edible currant. those haven't come up yet either.

How long after planting would you give up on them and contact the company?
