Looking for suggestions please...

Zone 5
Partial Sun
4-6-wide, up to 8 feet height

Need a fruit shrub that would thrive directly next to a mature poplar tree.
Something that would add landscape interest, but be edible also. There would be a fence behind and next to it, but open lawn in front.

Our house and garden theme is burgundy, so looking for anything other than yellows and oranges for this one.

thanks!

Any ideas are welcomed and appreciated!!!

Gooseberry or Blackcurrant would do wonderfully there, are beautiful, and also provide nice fall/winter colour. Since you're not looking for yellow/orange, though, I think I'd go with the currant.

Other things that will go well in the shade of a poplar include Jostaberry, Kiwi Issai (or other hardy kiwi; train onto a trellis to acheive whatever shape you want), and highbush Cranberry and Blueberry.

If you're dedicated to pruning and shaping, you could also plant Saskatoon or Serviceberry.

All of the shrubs mentioned above have varying shades of red as fall colour.
