Strawberry & apple tree leaves.

Hi again. Just a quick question. Apple trees drop their leaves in the winter right? It's winter now & I noticed the apple tree leaves are turning yellow. Just wanna make sure.

The other thing is my strawberries. As I mentioned above, it's winter here & about -7'C during the night time. I have strawberries mulched under frost netting, but notice that some leaves are turning colour & seem to eventually die. Is this a disease / fungal infection or just the effect of winter?

It's just the plant taking its natural course into winter Gustav.
The oldest leaves will die and new ones will sprout in the spring.
Strawberries retain some leaf over winter....but a lot just desicate and die.
Many growers cut the old leaf off the plants after cropping to encourage new leaf and clear the ground around the plant of desease carrying debris.
As to the apples...yes they lose all their leaf every winter.

Thank you. That gives me some piece of mind. I've already trimmed off all of the discolored leaves. After winter I will plant them in raised mounds covered with black plastic sheeting & dripper irrigation. I got some alpine white & yellow & giant red strawberry seeds. Hope they will germinate successfully.

I will post some picks.
