strawberry beetles

Well the strawberry patch did great last year except about 3/4th of the berries became snacks for these little (sap?) beetles. It was a new bed so should be clean enough and we picked fruit as quick as we could but these guys were determined. They attacked anything with even the slightest red eating holes into the middle. The little strawberry plants are just popping up through the straw mulch right now so what to do this year to get rid of the strawberry beetles? I was told they'll also go after the tomatos and a few other things we're getting ready to plant. :(

are they quite small? I have a huge, new patch this year and have only had a few berries so far, but I did see a small, long beetle-like bug munching into one of them.....wondering if it is the same bug you mention?
