Raspberry plants

Raspberry plants

What would be good to use around the base of the raspberry plants to control the weeds and grass
Are there any good or bad things to use as mulch?

We were thinking of just leaving the oak leaves that blew there last fall and let them act as mulch but didn't know if this could hurt the plants.
Or if hay or straw would be a better choice

Please give us any feedback you have experienced or heard of.

I let the oak leave pile up in my raised beds which are planted with raspberry plants. The leaves work great, but acorns drop in ours, so I'm forever having to pluck out oak tree seedlings.

wood chip mulch is known to increase production with raspberries and it blocks the weeds well.
