Strawberries,and other berries...Helpppppppppppp

Hi
I live in central illinois, and I want to plant strawberries and other kind of berries like raspberries.. I have no idea what should I do ? This will be the first time for me. I have never done any gardening before... so I really need help? when should I plant them? Should I use a bed ? which fertilizer is the best????

Hi Zeynepercan,

I remember from another post you had that you mentioned that you have a small backyard. Your raspberries will need a bit of room as they can become large shrubs. You will do best to have a support system for them. Here is info on growing raspberries. There are several different types.

Strawberries come in two different types. There are June bearing that produce berries only in summer and there are everbearing that bear all season long. The June bearing berries tend to be larger. It would be best for you to start with plants. For your first try you might want to try growing an everbearing variety in a strawberry pot. Here is what a strawberry pot looks like and how to plant it. In your cold climate you will need to bring the pot indoors for the winter and start new plants each year.

I tend to agree with Newt.

I started with bare root plants from nourse farms.
