MY HUSBAND PLANTED 16 BLUEBERRY BUSHES LAST SPRING.WE HAVE NOTICED WITH THE COOLER WEATHER THAT RABBITS ARE EATING THE NEW SHOOTS THAT HAVE GROWN. WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT THIS?

Fence. In my area, they nibble on the shoots all winter unless protecteded.

THANKS, MY HUSBAND WAS THINKING HE MIGHT HAVE TO PUT UP A SMALL FENCE, BUT WASN'T SURE IF THERE MIGHT BE SOME KIND OF REPELLENT THAT WOULD BE LESS EXPENSIVE THAN FENCE. THANKS FOR THE ADVICE

You're welcome. You can keep them out with 2'H chicken wire fence, but you may also need to be concerned about deer depending on where you live.

In spring, baby bunnies can slip through 2" gaps so keep that in mind when choosing fence material. I use 28"H Rabbit wire fence around most of my veg/fruit garden beds. They are made with narrower openings towards the bottom, but are short enough for me to step over.

Note too, that you may need to think about protecting the berries from birds when they start to ripen.

By the way -- using all caps is considered "shouting" in Internet messaging -- so you might want to lower your "voice"

I think that to make sure that a rabbit fence is really effective you need to bury the wire six inches or so as you put it up.
They can tunnel under a normal fence very quickly and its much harder to deal with after the fence has been erected.

I've had luck with only one thing going after all my blueberries... Pretty much eating all of them off of my 12 high bush blueberry bushes and countless wild ones. I had none left to freeze.

I Use a chicken Wire for a Duck I have its eaten many chillie baby plants and most of my tomato pants but I got some chicken wired donated by another gardener and I just cut it horizontal as the duck cant jump high as much and gives me twice the amount of fence, its great and doesnt look as bad
