goji berry polliation question.

Hi, I'm hearing conflicting information from sites about the pollination requirements of goji berry plants. Some say they are self-sterile and some say they are self-fertile.

Which is it? I would also be interested how you know this. ;)

Thanks.

I thought they needed more than one for pollination. I planted some this year for the 1st time. When my two that flowered were not near each other I didn't get any red fruit, just dark unfertilized fruit. So, I'm guessing you need more than 1 plant.

Probably depends on the variety. Wolf berry is generally thought to be self fertile, but needs pollination. As always yield is generally better if there are two plants, that is true for most things that are self fertile. We didn't get any berries, but the spring was so cool that the bees weren't flying at the right time. Growers were worried that the blueberry crop might be lost. Fortunately the bees flew in time for the mid and late ones. My earlies had no fruit and neither did the stanley plum, same problem.
