Help identifying this fruit plant

Grows on the ground like a vine, white flowers turn into fruit. Fruit is REALLY sweet smelling when sliced open. Looks somewhat like a Kiwi. Growing in a HOT, DRY, Sandy area that was once a Civil War encampment, so I'm wondering if it was something that they planted years ago. Slightly dried up in the pics. Any ideas what it is? Thanks!
