I purchased a super-sweet nectarine tree from Lowes a few months ago and I think it has X-Disease (aka shotgun disease.) Small redish purple spots develop, then fall out, there is a small amount of leaf curl, then the leaves drop.
My questions:
Is it even worth trying to save?
If I replace it with another stone fruit tree is it okay to plant it in the same spot?
Are there any preventitive steps, preferable organic, to take next time?

X-disease is not the same as the leaves curl in addition to the spots. X-disease is caused by an organism and those trees should be destroyed.

It's difficult for me to say if you should return the tree as that is a judgement call, but if it were my tree that came with the fungus, I would want a healthy one.
I can't clearly see the base of the tree, but do check to see that the rootflare isn't buried.

Thanks for clearing up the difference. I'm really not sure which one I have as there is only a tiny bit of leaf curl on a few of the leaves....or at least there was until the june bugs got ahold of it. I think I'll try to treat it as if it is shot hole fungus and see what happens.
