How late can zone 5 plant pumpkins?

I was wanting to put in some pumpkins but had things get in the way and haven't got them in yet. :( It is now the middle of June. Is it too late to plant pumpkins in North Central Kansas?

I would think that depends on the variety you plant. At a quick glance I've seen maturity reached in 85-120 days. If you're buying seedlings, their maturity is probably labelled just as seed packs would be.

And it never hurts to try, you might get a long warm fall. :)

Thanx..I think I will try any way--summer sure has been extending pretty late here in Kansas--I suppose I could also try to cover them to protect the plants from frost as well, huh? :)

Just come in from the garden to cool off and got online and read your post!!
Actually, you may jest, but that would be fun! :D

I hadn't really saved seeds before, but am thinking seriously about doing that! It sure would save alot of money!!!! Plus the ones that produce would be the ones that I want to keep growing!

Thanx for the inspiration too!!!
