Ok to plant black currants? What's pine rust?

I want to plant black currants. It is legal to plant them here. But the wikipedia article on black currants say they carry some disease ("white pine blister rust") that kills pine trees, but doesn't give any further details.

So I'm wondering, is this disease serious enough that I should be concerned about it? If so, how do I select a cultivar that is immune to the disease? Maybe I should try a hybrid instead of a pure black currant?

Wow, am I glad I stumbled on this site! I planted a black currant next to my red currant for cross pollination purposes last spring. They are located really close to my white pines. I guess I'm transplanting again this spring, just to be safe! I would really hate to lose my pine trees. Thanks! :)
