What can I grow in Iowa?

I am a new gardener just starting to take control of my yard (which prior to now had been put into disarray by my husband before I lived here) and I don't have a whole lot growing. I have a bed with strawberries growing in it, some plants, flowers, and that is about it. I do have some flowering trees in the front but I would love to grow a fruit bearing tree. Is there anything besides apple, crab apple, similar to that that I could try in my climate? The sunniest area in my yard is in the front but I already have two trees out there. I have a huge tree in my backyard but I get sun and shade back there. Don't know if that matters much or not. Any help would be great!

Try looking into cherry and pear trees. I know some cherry varieties grow here and the neighbors at our old house had pear trees. I don't know if they were very successful but the trees were surviving. Aside from apples those are the only fruit trees I've heard of people growing around here.
