Can a citrus tree (meyer lemon) produce too many lemons?

Can a citrus tree (in my case, a Meyer lemon) produce too many lemons for its own good?

Tree is about 3 feet tall, trunk diameter about an inch and a half. There are a few dozen ripe lemons at any given time, however, this spring it has literally thousands of blooms. Some groupings of buds containg 20+ flowers.

I can't imagine the tree burdened by this much fruit. I know that citrus self-thin, but is there anything I should do to help it?

No need. Your lemon tree will be just fine.

Concur. It will drop what it cannot support. If you wish to grow bigger lemons you could debud some, but I'll take quantity over quality in this case (our last care package of Meyers from FIL is almost gone, so you can send extras here... )
