Currants from seed?

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if Currants are suitable to be propagated from seed? Will they 'come true'? I don't recall what variety I have, the old packaging is around somewhere but I can't locate it right now.

Just recently legal for Connecticut folk to grow that plant; alternate host for wheat rust (hooray; the wheat crop in Connecticut is saved! ) I'd make sure it is legal in your area as well...

While I suppose you could do seed, this plant roots so easily that it is the only way I have ever heard about propagating it...

Scott,

Thanks. I purchased these locally at Lowe's so I assume they are legal here. Also I have seen them around here for decades. Yeah I had pretty good luck with cuttings but like growing from seed too. Just curious really.

I should have checked my reference material first. Dirr & Heuser suggests a 90 day stratification period so I pretty much missed the boat this year anyway.
