I was a little behind schedule pruning the plums, but I managed to get it done before bud-break. These were vigorous branches that grew straight up last year and bloomed like crazy, but were sadly completely out of place. I brought a good sized 3/4" diameter branch inside, split the base and put it in a heavy vase on the kitchen table. The buds burst open a few days ago and now the branch is covered with dainty white swelling flower buds. I expect some of them to open tomorrow.
Now I'm bummed I didn't think to do this with the apple and the peach branches.

Hmm, maybe that big apple tree could be a bit shorter on that side ....
